Rain disrupts matches for second week in a row

2012-02-14 00:00

FOR the second weekend in succession rain had the major say in school cricket matches.

Northwood vs Michaelhouse

Overcast conditions with the threat of rain greeted players when Northwood hosted Michaelhouse. Michaelhouse won the toss and elected to bat.

In a low-scoring game where runs were difficult to come by, the visitors won by 19 runs.

Michaelhouse reached a total of 111 and were all out in the 45th over. Dean Stephen top scored with 19.

They were disappointed they did not hang in for the full 50 overs after being 69 for four after 25 overs.

Dale van der Merwe and Johnny Riekert both captured three wickets.

Dale Moolman was undefeated on 19 when Northwood lost their last wicket with their total 92 in the 34th over.

Northwood 92 (Stephen 4/19, Mvelase 3/6)

DHS vs St Charles

St Charles were asked to bat first and it took tremendous concentration by the top order to prevent DHS from making early inroads.

Ben Philpot and Robin Mitchell patiently took the score to 42 and then debutante Keagan Stretch joined Mitchell to take the score to the 80s.

Matt Ford joined the proceedings and took well over eight overs to start scoring, batting with great maturity and together with Pavi Indrajith they took the score over the 150 mark.

Ford was bowled on 49 by the best ball of the game. Indrajith ended on 39 not out and this enabled St Charles to post a very competitive 179. Ainsley Ndlovu was once again DHS’s most successful bowler with four wickets.

Apart from a few lusty blows from Trenoweth, who scored a quick fire 18, the DHS batsmen were bamboozled by the St Charles bowlers and fielders.

At 76 for eight, the Durban outfit were hanging on by a thread when heavy showers put an end to the day.

Glenwood vs Westville

Glenwood were still fairly confident of reaching their target when rain intervened after Westville had posted 221 for nine in their 50 overs.

Some solid batting by Luke Schlemmer at a decent rate and Devon Kupferman in particular, with good support from others, took them to this competitive total.

When the rain came Glenwood were 105 for four, but with Tyron Koningkramer on 30 not out.

Result: Westville 221-9 (Schlemmer 65, Kupferman 35, Pearce 5/46)
