Rape: Father pleads guilty

2013-07-29 00:00

A 72-YEAR-OLD man has pleaded guilty to the rape of his mentally challenged 16-year-old daughter.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter, told the court he knew that what he did was wrong and that he was sorry.

A psychologist’s report compiled by Professor Anthony Pillay said the daughter needed support to raise her nine-month-old child, and that her mother was helping her. The daughter was able to answer questions and clearly describe what happened when she was raped.

The father admitted that he raped his daughter on June 24 in the Snathing area of Pietermaritzburg.

He will be back in court on August 15 for sentencing.
