2010-08-11 00:00

A KOKSTAD police constable has been charged with raping his estranged ex-lover.

It is alleged that Constable Lungelolakhe Ronald Nkabinde (24) raped the woman while they were visiting KwaMashu, in Durban, on July 3.

Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) spokesperson Moses Dlamini said Nkabinde was arrested yesterday after the ICD took over the investigiation.

It is alleged Nkabinde committed the rape after he and the victim had attended a funeral in KwaMashu.

Dlamini alleged that Nkabinde “kidnapped his ex-girlfriend after they had attended the funeral. He later took her to a back room at a nearby tavern where he repeatedly raped her. Upon her release, the victim went to the police station where she reported a case of rape …” He said Nkabinde appeared briefly at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court, and his case was remanded for bail application on August 17.
