Rape: Principal added to offenders’ register

2012-08-16 00:00

SUSPENDED Georgedale Primary School principal Nhlanhla Victor Mbongwe will be added to the sexual offenders’ register following his 18-year sentence for raping a pupil.

Mbongwe raped a 14-year-old pupil in 2009 after school. The victim was said to have been an orphan.

The National Prosecuting Authority applied for and was granted the right to file Mbongwe’s name to the register at the Camperdown police station.

This application was not opposed.

Mbongwe is presently out on bail as he is awaiting the outcome of an appeal of the judgment.

The Department of Education suspended Mbongwe in June.
