Rape: court employee accused

2009-12-10 00:00

MOUNTAIN Rise police yesterday arrested a 27-year-old Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court employee on a rape charge laid against him by a 22-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon.

The woman, whose name is withheld, told The Witness that she went out with two friends to a local pub in town on Friday evening and at about 5 am on Saturday, two men at the club joined them at their table. One of the two is known to one of the friends.

The woman said she had only drank about two or three glasses of wine, but after the men arrived she felt sick and weak.

The men are alleged to have offered the girls a lift to their flat in town. They first took the third woman home and then the victim and her remaining friend to their home.

“By the time we got to my room my legs couldn’t handle my weight and my friend told me that I was helped into bed.

“My friend alerted me about the rape when she noticed the movement on the side of the bed where I was sleeping. She found my pants down with the man still on top of me,” the victim said.

The woman was taken to the police station, and then to the district surgeon.

Police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan confirmed the arrest, adding that samples were taken from the victim and forwarded to the forensic sciences laboratory for analysis. The suspect will appear in court today.
