2012-09-07 00:00

POLICE have tracked down the suspect linked to the rape of an 82-year-old Swayimane woman all the way to a cell in Durban’s Westville Prison.

The man was in prison after being arrested for a robbery.

“Detectives from Pietermaritzburg believe they have their man and are questioning him in connection with the Wartburg rape,” said

police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker.

The suspect (27) is alleged to have raped the woman at her home in Swayimane just days after the rape of another elderly victim in the same area. “It is alleged he was arrested by Durban Central police on August 16 in connection with a case in which a man was robbed of his cellphone,” said Naicker.

He will remain in custody at Westville Prison until he is charged with rape.
