Rapist tells young niece not to look

2011-03-17 00:00

A 23-YEAR-OLD woman from France, in Imbali, was raped yesterday by an unknown man armed with a srewdriver while her 11-year-old niece was instructed by the alleged rapist to cover her face with a blanket.

Police spokesperson, Joey Jeevan, said that the woman from France Phase Five, who shared the house with her sister and her sister’s three children aged between six and 11 years old, woke at 12.30 am to hear the unknown man talking to her sister’s 11-year-old daughter.

“It is alleged that the suspect then demanded cellphones and cash from the victim and then ransacked the house and took R100 cash and a Nokia and an LG cellphone. The suspect then returned to the room and ordered the 23-year-old victim to remove her clothing and removed his clothes. He then instructed the 11-year-old girl to cover her face with a blanket, before raping the victim,” said Jeevan.

During the ordeal, said Jeevan, the victim’s sister woke up, realised what was happening and ran to get help. The suspect then fled from the scene.

“The victim was taken to Northdale hospital for treatment. It is believed the suspect gained entry by forcing open the front door. No arrests have been made,” added Jeevan.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Gys Roos of the Family Violence Child protection and Sexual offences Unit on 033 387 9500 or on his cell at 079 500 0376. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stop on the toll free number 086 001 0111.

This incident comes barely a month after an 18-year-old France woman was raped at gunpoint in front of her two-week old baby and grandmother.
