Rates complaints: Ground-breaking meeting held in Howick

2011-07-27 00:00

HOWICK is setting the pace when it comes to resolving rates complaints. A groundbreaking meeting was held in the town on Monday with representatives of the local rates forum, uMngeni Mayor Mbali Myeni and senior officials from the provincial department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

A joint statement issued yesterday by Myeni and forum chair Mano Naidoo described the meeting as “extremely successful and held in a very cordial spirit”.

The statement said the forum expressed its concerns around the flawed valuation roll and wants a review of the processes that led to the adoption of the current roll. The mayor resolved to put in motion the processes to address ratepayers’ concerns. The parties will hold follow-up meetings and will jointly inform residents of solutions. — WR.
