Reader proves faking ghosts is easy

2011-10-04 00:00

WITH the advent of modern technology such as smartphones and the millions of applications available for them, creating plausible images of ghosts has become easy.

Carol Beyers, her husband Yunus Moosa and their son Mikhail visited The Witness yesterday to demonstrate the freely available “Ghost Camera” application for Blackberry phones.

“The photo is taken at the same time that the image of the ghost is added so it doesn’t appear like the photo was tampered with,” said Moosa.

His son, the cellphone fundi, was the one who showed him the application that creates ghost images.

The family was outraged at the hoax photo of a little girl hovering over the scene of Friday’s accident in Copesville that claimed 15 lives.

“People are playing on people’s emotions. Especially that guy coming in and saying the photo is real and that he took it. It’s shocking,” said Beyers. “The accident has affected people greatly and then they do things like this.”

Beyers said it is disgusting for people to exploit religious susceptibilities to trick people into believing that the image was real.
