Readiness test: KZN Inland men on pre-tournament tour to Gauteng

2009-08-07 00:00

AS part of their final preparations for the National Men’s Interprovincial Hockey Tournament (IPT), the KwaZulu-Natal Inland squad are going on a tour to Gauteng this weekend.

The IPT to determine South Africa’s champion hockey province takes place at the AB Jackson Greenfields Turf and Maritzburg College’s Pape’s Astro from August 17 to 22.

Inland captain Darryn Gallagher’s team will meet Northern Gauteng tomorrow, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Sunday and North West on Monday.

All three sides will give coach Jock Coombes’s Inland line-up a searching test of where they currently stand in terms of their readiness for IPT, which is just 10 days away.

This is not the final KZN Inland squad for IPT. The form of the players, niggling injuries and other issues should be resolved over the weekend and the team likely named on Tuesday next week.

The Inland B side for the B Section interprovincial tournament on Maritzburg College’s Pape’s Astro will be named at the same time.

The KZN Inland women’s team for the Spar IPT in Pretoria from August 25-29 will also be named next week.

Rohn Barron, Matthew Redmead, Justin Domleo, Jethro Eustice, Clinton Panther, Darryn Gallagher (capt), Kegan Walters, Matthew Coombes, Duzo Khanyile, Karl Oftebro, Gavin Jelley, Andrew Watson, Harry Beachcroft-Shaw, Devon van der Merwe.

Coach: Jock Coombes. Manager: Reggie Smith. Physio: Mike Denton.
