Reality TV show: envy of ticketless

2010-06-15 00:00

THERE were many disappointed football lovers who, after five phases of ticket sales and two additional public releases, were left without their cherished World Cup tickets.

That there were 8 000 empty seats during the weekend match between South Korea and Greece in Port Elizabeth would have left a few people scratching their heads.

So SuperSport’s new reality television show Chase the Makarapa will rouse some envious reactions from the viewing public.

The show, which airs daily on SuperSport 3 at 11 pm, has eight contestants competing in a variety of challenges held across the country.

The winners are rewarded with tickets to World Cup matches played in the nine host cities, including a quarter-final, a semi-final and the final.

All the contestants were awarded tickets to the tournament’s June 11 opener at Soccer City between South Africa and Mexico.

Four of the eight contestants also won tickets to the kick-off celebration concert on June 10 after demonstrating their Playstation and mini-foosball skills.

The show runs for the duration of the World Cup.

Three of the eight contestants are South African. The other five are visiting the country from Brazil, India, China, Poland and Nigeria.

Justin Toerien, 94.7 Highveld Stereo presenter and soccer nut, is one of the contestants on the show.

“While you are working, we are playing and we wish you could all join us. We will ensure that we have enough fun for all of you,” he said.
