Record turnout at bowls qualifiers

2011-01-20 00:00

LAST Sunday saw a record turnout of 144 bowlers who all supported players in the qualifiers for the Inter-District Tournament, which takes place in Pietermaritzburg, Margate and Cape Town in March.

This event was held at Lynwood Bowling Club and was very well organised by the members or the Niba Players Standing Committee.

Last Friday and Saturday, Bowls SA, in association with the Niba Bowls Academy, held a talent identification training camp. To be chosen for this intensive bowls training, all participants had to have previously completed the talent identification exercises.

Zone talent identification camps will be held later in the year and all bowlers are encouraged to submit T.l.D. scores in order to have a chance to qualify for selection.

A markers’ course will be run from the end of January 2011 on consecutive Tuesdays (all day) for two days.

Interested candidates should confirm their intention to attend this course to Bob Radcliffe at 083 700 0718. Should there be sufficient demand, qualified markers who wish to continue on to do a Level I Technical Officials (Umpires) course should also contact Radcliffe, as this course will continue on after the markers’ course.
