Redknapp: Bucs were excellent

JOHANNESBURG — Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that his side were played off the park by Orlando Pirates in their 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

Spurs took the fight to Bucs early on in the second match of the Vodacom Challenge at the Mbombela Stadium, but Julio Cesar Leal’s men were unrelenting and forced the Londoners on to the back foot, especially in the second half.

“It was a good game and I thought Pirates played so well, especially in the second half,” said Redknapp.

“Pirates were confident on the ball and they should be very proud with the way they played against an English Premiership side.

“I thought Pirates were excellent. Pirates were very, very good. I thought they were impressive. They are real quality. I was very, very impressed,” he added.

The 64-year-old said he will definitely be watching the Soweto derby tonight after Pirates’ impressive display, albeit on television.

“It will be a good game I’m sure and I will definitely watch on TV,” he said.

Redknapp’s counterpart, Leal, was on hand to give an account of what he saw of his players in his first match in charge.

Leal said, “Rafael van der Vaart’s goal was beautiful, but I think we controlled the match after we regrouped.

“I think this is a good start for us and I’m very satisfied with my group of players and I expect more from them in the future.”
