Refurbished, renewed and revived family-orientated restaurant

2011-04-06 00:00

THE well-known, refurbished Hilton pub and restaurant “Crossways” was officially re-launched and renamed Old Main Brewery this week.

The establishment is under new ownership and was revamped over the past few months.

The revamp includes a refurbishment of the bar, outdoor area (into a beer garden), dining area and children’s room.

The new owner is well-known South African restaurateur, pub-owner and entrepreneur Robert Mitchell — and Old Main Brewery is under the management of Adrian McWilliams and Matthew Swemmer.

Mitchell has been involved in the establishment and running of a number of well-known pub brands, including the Keg franchises, McGinty’s Franchise Company, Billy The B.U.M.S Cocktail Bar and Bistro, Joe Kool’s and the Firkin brand.

According to managers McWilliams and Swemmer, they would like to transform the venue into a “family-orientated establishment”.

“It’s a new start — a new beginning for Old Main Brewery,” McWilliams said.

The establishment also has a new chef — Paul Pieterse who hails from La Vierge Wine Estate in Hermanus.

McWilliams expects the “brewery node”, which is adjacent to the dining area, to commence brewing on site within two months. Old Main Brewery will produce one of Mitchell’s brands, namely Foxx Larger.

The former “pool room” has been transformed into a “showroom” for ladies hosting birthday parties, cocktail parties and other functions.

McWilliams said Old Main Brewery has also partnered with Hilton Harriers (Running Club), adding that the establishment has installed full ablution facilities for the use of the club’s members.
