2010-09-15 00:00

ONE of uMzinto’s most wanted criminals, Jesus Joseph Lungisani Mgozi, has been convicted and sentenced to 24 life terms plus 145 years. His sentences will be served concurrently with his first life sentence.

Mgozi’s reign of terror came to an end in 2006 when he was arrested in Chatsworth for an offence he committed in that area. He was transferred to be charged with 38 other offences committed in the uMzinto policing area.

He appeared in the Scottburgh High Court on September 9, 2010, where he was convicted by Justice Gyanda and sentenced on 34 of the 38 charges that he faced.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for one count of attempted robbery, 15 years’ imprisonment on each of nine counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and life imprisonment for each of 24 counts of rape.

Mgozi was granted leave to appeal.
