Relief as phones start to ring again

2015-02-26 00:00

AFTER two weeks of Telkom lines being down in parts of Pietermaritzburg’s CBD, they were finally restored on Monday afternoon.

The municipality has now said they were not responsible for the damage to Telkom cables as originally thought.

Business owners were overjoyed when their phones began ringing again and the worry of losing business became a thing of the past.

CV Joint Specialist owner Rex Boreham said he was happy and relieved that his phones were working again.

“Since the phones have come on, my business has picked up again.”

When the Telkom lines first went down two weeks ago, Msunduzi municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha said a municipality worker had damaged a Telkom cable.

However, in an investigation conducted by Msunduzi they found this was not the case.

“There is new information which has surfaced in our investigation that Msunduzi is not responsible for the damage to the cables,” she said.
