Rescue: Stone to stay in hospital

2011-03-03 00:00

LEWIS Stone (82), who survived two nights and two days in the open after a fall in Wembley at the weekend, will remain in hospital until his kidneys are in perfect condition.

Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic spokesperson Reshnee Beekrum said Stone is being treated for dehydration, renal failure and rhabdomyolysis, a rapid breakdown in skeletal muscle tissue that occurs as a result of dehydration.

The doctor’s observations concerning his head injury are good, and he is happy with Stone’s condition, said Beekrum.

Meanwhile, Stone’s pet dog Misha, who stayed with him through the ordeal, was checked by a veterinary surgeon on Tuesday.

Stone’s son Nigel said the vet found the dog was exhausted.

“Other than that she’s fine and she misses my dad as they haven’t seen each other since Monday afternoon,” he added. — WR.
