Residents annoyed with dry taps

2012-11-21 00:00

RESIDENTS in various parts of the city are seething at water cuts for which they have been given no explanation.

Yesterday, a Witness reader said that parts of the Boughton, Prestbury and Blackridge areas have been without water from 6.30 pm on Monday.

Norma Newton (83) from Boughton, who hasn’t had water since 9 pm on Monday, said she is frustrated and annoyed by this.

“There has been no communication or explanation. I don’t like being treated like an idiot,” Newton said.

She said she has made about six calls to the municipality, but nothing has happened.

“When are they going to answer? In the next century?”.

Newton has had to use water from her swimming pool to flush the toilet.

For Kim Walters, who stays in Blackridge, the water problem started last week.

“On Friday, our water went off and was off for almost 24 hours. Then our water went off again yesterday [Monday], and has once again been off for almost 24 hours,” Walters said.

The frustrated resident said every time they call the municipality the response is “they are working on the problem”.

“They can’t give us timelines or any other information. Some say it is burst pipes, others say it is a problem in the reservoir. So who knows what the actual truth is?” Walters asked.

They are unable to flush toilets and have to buy water from the shop to drink so that their dogs do not dehydrate.

“My water has been off from around 1:30 pm today [Tuesday]. This is very frustrating. We are ratepayers, but we are suffering,” said Pat Pillay, who stays in Fitzsimmonds Road in the Willowton area.

Despite various attempts, the municipality could not be reached for comment.
