Residents urged to protect pets during concert

THE Johnny Clegg concert tomorrow night at Woodburn Stadium is sure to be a spectacular event for all those attending.

But Maureen Vida, spokeswoman for the Pietermaritzburg SPCA, warns that pet owners living near the stadium should take the necessary precautions to ensure their pets are safe and secure.

According to Tammy Hunt from Well’s Fireworks, the concert will include a fireworks display at the end of the show, at about 10 pm. Hunt said the fireworks show will not be longer than five minutes.

“We will have four display boxes, two in each corner of the stage, and two Roman candles that shoot up high into the sky,” said Hunt.

Vida said the SPCA “totally opposes the use of fireworks”, adding that “large displays in built-up areas invariably end up having a huge negative impact on people and animals in the area”.
