Resurgent Inland’s three-day delight

2012-11-26 00:00

THERE was much cause for celebration in the KZN Inland camp this weekend after the perennial underachievers continued their CSA Provincial Competition renaissance under new coach Grant Morgan with a rare three-day victory.

At Buffalo Park in East London on Saturday, captain Kyle Nipper and his Inland lads completed a superb match in which they dominated every session in beating a more-than-decent Border side by seven wickets for a heartily welcomed 18-point harvest.

And Inland were on course for an unprecedented third consecutive 50-over victory yesterday but eventually fell a productive over short of hauling in the impressive target set by Border.

Meanwhile in Chatsworth, the first day having been rained out without a ball being bowled was enough to ensure that KZN Coastal and Western Province wouldn’t have sufficient time to get an outright result in their three-day affair.

And in yesterday’s 50-over encounter there was more frustration for captain Chad Bowes and his KZN Coastal team-mates, who had more than enough deliveries in hand but ran out of wickets in falling just 10 runs short of overhauling the target.

The stage has been set for a fascinating four days’ cricket at the Maritzburg Oval from Thursday when Inland and Coastal meet in the long-awaited KZN derby.
