Review: Kismat Konnection

2008-08-03 00:00

Nu Metro

The last film that director Aziz Mirza made under Dreams Unlimited was Chalte Chalte, and this time round he continues with another Raj and Priya romantic saga with lovers bound by strange cosmic forces.

Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapaur) is a simple architect for whom nothing seems to be going right (phooti kismat). He’s just a defeated victim of endless misfortunes, but he is told by a crystal ball reader (Juhi Chawla) that he will have better days ahead as a lucky charm is about to enter his life.

Enter Priya (Vidya Balan), who makes things go right for Raj whenever she is around — this also arouses his love interest in her. Raj is convinced that Priya’s presence will bring him luck on an upcoming mall construction. But there’s a twist in the story as the construction of a mall threatens the existence of the very community centre that Priya very much cares for.

Does Raj follow the path of lies and deception? Should he follow his ambition and manipulate his loved one with a sweet lie? Or is this all karmic hocus-pocus talk about the good luck charm?

Shahid Kapaur has matured as an actor and gives a very convincible performance.

Vidya Balan shares a great on-screen chemistry with Shahid — her performance really wins your heart.

Director Aziz Mirza has a brilliant storyline, but fails to use all the ingredients he had to make a very savory meal. Kismat Konnection, a story of fate and destiny, gets trapped and tangled in its telling.

The film has its own charm, but I just could not get “konnected”.
