Reward: R20 000 for rhino poachers

2008-03-19 00:00

Three white rhinos have been found dead in the remote Tewate area on the Eastern Shores of Lake St Lucia in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

The state of the carcasses indicate that the animals were shot about two weeks ago and the horns removed.

Jeff Gaisford, spokesman for Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, said yesterday it was not possible to determine the sex of the three rhinos.

“Two were sub-adults and were found in open grassland, while the third, an adult animal, was found about 500 metres away close to a patch of forest.”

EKZNW and the iSimangaliso Authority are offering a R20 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the poachers.
