Reward: R50?000 for info on ANC Regional secretary’s killer

2011-08-11 00:00

MEMBERS of the organised crime unit have offered a reward of up to R50 000 to any person who has information that could lead to the arrest and successful conviction of the criminals responsible for last month’s murder of ANC regional secretary, Sibusiso Sibiya, provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Phindile Radebe said yesterday.

Sibiya was gunned down at Inanda on July 11 by unknown persons.

“Members of the organised crime unit from Cato Manor were tasked to investigate the murder.

“To date they have exhausted all possible leads that were uncovered during the investigation with negative results,” Radebe said.

Last week a man from the Eastern Cape, who asked not to be named, told an East London newspaper that he and his gang were offered R200 000 last year to assassinate Sibiya.

The man reportedly said his group came to Durban to carry out the job, but they were prevented from doing so due to police visibility around Sibiya’s residence at the time.

Radebe said detectives in charge of the investigation would visit the man as he has offered to help police in their investigations. Yesterday he could not confirm that police had paid the man a visit.

He said any person who has information about the identity or whereabouts of those responsible for the murder should call Brigadier Simon Madonsela at 082 567 4148, Lieutenant-Colonel Willie Olivier at 082 772 2341 or Captain Dumi Hlongwa at 079 500 0795
