A 20-YEAR-OLD Rhodes student from Pietermaritzburg died on Sunday evening in a car accident when the vehicle she was travelling in overturned just outside of Bathurst, close to Grahamstown.

Anja Jooste, affectionately known as Ajay to her friends, was studying Drama at Rhodes University. She matriculated at Carter High School in 2009.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills confirmed the accident to The Witness.

She said there were four people in the 4x4 vehicle — Jooste and three men.

According to Mills, Jooste died on the scene while the other passenger who was injured is in a critical condition. She said police were conducting blood tests.

Facebook wall posts have flooded in from friends and family members, who are still in shock and mourning.

“God has taken back his angel. You were a lovely, talented young lady that will be sorely missed by many. R.I.P beautiful,” said Mikhailla Leonard in one of many wall posts on Jooste’s Facebook profile.

“Such a shock, and such a tragedy, you were a lovely, wonderful, lively, energetic girl who made a room buzz with energy. You will be sorely missed, much love,” Grant Goodwin one of her friends on Facebook wrote.

Attempts to contact Jooste’s family yesterday were unsuccessful.
