Rhodes wants you to come sit on a stoep

2012-10-20 00:00

READY, steady … sit!

Rhodes Tourism is gearing up for an event that they believe should be a national, if not international, event, “endorsed by medical practitioners and stress relief experts across the world for its wonderfully therapeutic and soul-restoring properties”.

It’s the Rhodes and Surrounds’s first ever “Stoepsitfees”.

The “Stoepsitfees” will be held in and around the Eastern Cape village of Rhodes on Friday and Saturday, February 15 and 16, 2013; a weekend specially selected for opportune stoep-sitting weather.

Organiser Dave Walker says at registration, participants will receive a goodie bag that will include maps showing where the various stoeps are located, a Republic of Rhodes passport and among other things, a ball of wool and knitting needles with which you can while away the stoep-time, knitting a square for a blanket.

By the end of the event, it is hoped that there will be sufficient squares to make at least one, if not more blankets that will be presented to needy residents from the adjoining village township of Zakhele.

Also on offer will be an assortment of “stoepbeskuit”, pannekoek, biscuits, koeksisters or even home-made pizzas.
