Richards Bay: community tv station 1KZNTV to migrate from TopTv to DStv

2012-10-27 00:00

THE only digital television station in KwaZulu-Natal is based in Richards Bay and will start broadcasting on DStv later this month.

This was announced at a press briefing held at the 1KZNTV studios yesterday.

Elated executive chairperson Themba Fakazi said it was a great milestone that deserved to be celebrated as the station was only launched in July last year.

The community station, which is currently available on the TopTV network, will officially migrate to DStv on November 13 at 6 pm.

It will be available on all bouquets and aired on channel 261.

Fakazi said the platform would enable the station to showcase the rich heritage, culture, natural wonders and tourism opportunities in KwaZulu-Natal to a wider national audience.

He said that local businesses and institutions would benefit from national advertising.

Executive director and station manager Edwin Mncwango said: “Apart from better reception for local viewers, the inclusion of 1KZNTV on DStv will allow people located in other parts of the country to stay in touch with what is happening at home.”

Mncwango further said the switch would also create new jobs as new programmes would be added where locals would be given preference.

“The station programming will remain relevant and local in focus and the station will continue to broadcast free-to-air [terrestrial] in the Richards Bay area and surrounds,” said Mncwango.
