Richmond, Eston ahead

ESTON and Richmond are the teams to beat in the Mascor Midlands ­Country Districts League after both sides won at the weekend.

Although there are only four teams in the league, these latest victories have seen the two sides open a small gap between themselves and the other two teams, Mooi River and Noodsberg.

Richmond top the standings with nine points, one ahead of Eston, while Mooi River has four points and Noodsberg has yet to get off the mark.

Noodsberg v Richmond

In a match played at Noodsberg, Richmond were made to work for their three-wicket win.

The hosts batted first and finished on 183-9 in their 45 overs, the mainstay being Murray Soles’s 60 and Jason Vaughn-Davies weighing in with 45. Javed Miandad did the business with the ball for Richmond, claiming 3-40 in his nine over spell.

Richmond crossed the line with 184-7, scored in just 33.3 overs. Hendrik Marais led the charge with a polished 75*, while Magnus van Rooyen kept Noodsberg in the hunt with 4-26 in nine tight overs.

Eston v Mooi River

Played at Eston, the visitors struggled to 155 all out in 37.1 overs as Eston’s Murray Hampson (3-40) and Ant Foster (3-13) put the skids on their batting.

Garret Jouston dug in for a brave 40 and Travis Butler showed what could be achieved with a strong 54.

It wasn’t enough as Eston knocked off the required runs in 31.5 overs, reaching 157-6. Stuart Woodroffe smashed 77 and Ryan Cook reached 50. Butler tried in vain with the ball, managing 2-20 in his four overs.
