Richmond woman brutally murdered

2009-09-03 00:00

A 59-YEAR-OLD woman was possibly raped before she was killed, mutilated and buried in a shallow grave in a forest in the Richmond area on Monday.

The naked body of Octavia Ngcongo was found with multiple stab wounds in the chest and head and SAPS spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said the police are questioning two men, aged 22 and 46, about the matter.

Ngcongo was walking through the forest on her way home on Sunday evening with her common-law husband and two other men when they were attacked.

Budhram said Ngcongo and her companions were attacked by four men who were armed with sticks, and ran in different directions.

When Ngcongo did not return home on Monday her husband reported to the local traditional leader. A search party was launched in the forest where they were attacked and her body was found.

A postmortem will be held to determine the exact cause of Ngcongo’s death.

Budhram said the police are also investigating whether the woman was raped.

Police are making an appeal to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Inspector Bonginkosi Ngcobo of the Richmond Detective Services on 033 212 9455 or 083 477 6690. Informants who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stop on the toll- free number 08600 10111.
