Road rage victim’s kin traumatised

TRAUMATISED Davelin Naidoo is undergoing counselling sessions after his brother, Kavlin, was shot in an alleged road rage incident in central Pietermaritzburg.

Davelin was driving through town on November 2, when Sergeant Thobelani Khuzwayo is alleged to have shot Kavlin in the stomach using his service pistol.

The 27-year-old IT specialist remains in a critical condition in the ICU at Grey’s Hospital with damage to his internal organs.

Davelin said he cannot sleep at night as the scenes of the incident still haunt him.

“My brother got out of the car to ask him what happened. Just before I got out, I heard a gun shot and the next second Kavlin was sleeping in a pool of blood,” he said emotionally. “I could see the life slipping away from his body. I was on my knees, holding him in my arms and saw a bullet hole on his back.

“His main organs were damaged. The doctor said he is lucky to be alive. I can’t get this out of my mind. Maybe this would stop once my brother has pulled through. I hope and pray that he gets better.”

His father, Dev, said it will take months for Kavlin to recover. “He is very sick and still on life support but he is making a slight improvement. He shook his head and raises his hand when we talk to him,” Dev said.

Khuzwayo was granted bail of R2 000.
