2011-07-05 00:00

POLICE report two cases of bald-face robberies on the South Coast.

In Hibberdene a 68-year-old woman was slapped by a robber on Thursday afternoon when she went to check on three unfamiliar people on her property.

According to a police report, the woman noticed that there were people in her yard at about 2.30 pm. When she went behind the garage to investigate she found the gardener had been tied up by the robbers. One of the three intruders then walked up to her and slapped her across the face while the other two watched. One of the men was armed.

The robber snatched a bracelet from her arm and forcibly took her keys, which carried a remote alarm. An armed robbery case is being investigated.

In Port Shepstone robbers made off with cash, cellphones and jewellery after pouncing on an unsuspecting couple in Albersville. Police said a 44-year-old woman was relaxing in the lounge with her husband at about 7 pm on Thursday evening when three men entered their home through the front door.

Two of the robbers were armed and reportedly hit the husband over the head with the butt of the gun several times. When the man resisted the robbers fired some shots, wounding him on the arm. He was hospitalised and is in a stable condition. His wife was not hurt. — Witness Reporter.
