Robbers hit homes in Trafalgar

TRAFALGAR on the South Coast has suffered a four-month spate of robberies and attacks.

In August, three families were attacked on the same day, Saturday, August 26.

The first robbery happened when two men attacked a couple inside their house. The husband was cut on the head with glass and robbers fled with money and cell phones.

The second attack was when a 55-year-old man heard his dogs barking and went to check, and was confronted by two men who stabbed him in the arm.

The third attack that day happened when two men armed with a knife threatened Pam Baxter (54) and her daughter Natalie (34) in their home. The women were watching television when they heard the gate open and went to investigate. The men fled with Natalie’s bag.

Three months ago, while staying with his sister in her Trafalgar home, Andrew Hiscox (51) suffered a cut on his arm when they were robbed.

In October, Marjorie Finnegan (85) was watching TV in her house when two men gained access by breaking a window.

They entered her bedroom and threatened her with a knife before taking her money and fleeing.

A family living near Port Edward is lucky to be alive after intruders got inside their home at 3.30 am one night this month.

Danie Theron (43) and his wife Johanna (36) were attacked while they were sleeping. The couple heard a firearm being cocked in their bedroom. They looked up to find a man pointing a firearm at them. They were threatened by four men who demanded cash and other valuables.

The family co-operated and their lives were spared. Four suspects were later arrested.

The head of the Trafalgar Ratepayers’ Association, Andre van Rensburg, said: “We have installed three CCTV cameras in our area. What else can we do?

“It is very disappointing the way this country is going. I am despondent and I think we all feel this way because there is only so much we can do.”
