2013-11-26 00:00

A SECURITY guard is recovering in hospital after he was shot several times on Friday night by robbers wanting a gun.

Vusumuzi Raymond Gabuza (53) was on duty at the Post Office Hub in Willowton Road when he was confronted by two men. One, armed with a firearm, demanded a firearm from Gabuza.

Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane said when Gabuza told the suspects that he didn’t have a firearm, the gunman shot him numerous times, seriously wounding him on his left index finger, right hand and chest.

Gabuza was taken to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg where he is believed to be in a stable condition. Zwane said the police were investigating a case of attempted murder.

Anyone who can assist with the investigation should contact Warrant Officer Sibusiso Nzuza at 072 516 8907.
