A MAN sustained serious head injuries and his colleague was wounded in the arm when one bullet hit both of them during a robbery in Durban yesterday.

The incident took place on Sidney Road in Umbilo at 10 am.

SAPS spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the victims were leaving a bank when they were approached by the two armed men.

“The suspects demanded the money and one victim (41) was shot in the head and is in a critical condition in hospital and the other victim (44) was shot in the shoulder and was taken to hospital. The suspects fled the scene in their getaway vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money. Investigations are continuing,” he said

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said the two men were believed to be construction workers on their lunch break when they were attacked.

“One of the patients allegedly tried to unarm one of the men when a gunshot went off. One of the construction workers sustained moderate injuries when a bullet struck him in his arm. The other worker sustained critical head injuries after allegedly being struck by the same bullet.”

Zwane said charges of armed robbery and attempted murder were being investigated by Umbilo SAPS.
