Rockers hit city

2009-10-02 00:00

TWO Durban bands — Starplayer and Red Light Stereo — and Johannesburg-based Straw will descend on Pietermaritzburg for a big show of rock music next week on October 10 at the Red Door.

Local KwaZulu-Natal bands Starplayer and Redlight Stereo (winners of the Durban round of the RBF SABC Emerging Sounds Competition) were recently in the area sharing the stage with Plush at Pecanwood.

Starplayer’s new album The Way The World Turns, recently released through Musketeer Records, and Redlight Stereo’s recent win at the recent RBF SABC Emerging Sounds Competition, indicate that KZN talent is alive and well. Straw also claims KZN roots through bassist Scott Jamieson (originally from Pietermaritzburg’s hard-rock band 12 Gauge). Straw has performed for the past eight years in and around Johannesburg.

The band’s hard-rocking style and energy have seen them sharing the stage with Boo, Watershed, Arno Carstens, Chromium, Knave, The Parlotones, Cutting Jade, Tweak, Wonderboom and Mean Mr Mustard.

The evening promises to be an entertaining one for fans of energetic rock music.

The event takes place at the Red Door on October 10. The show starts at 9 pm, and doors open at 8 pm. Entry is R30. Inquiries: phone Erin at 083 797 0001.
