Rugby: 2012 interprovincial women’s league at Woodburn

2012-07-06 00:00

TOMORROW sees the first round of the 2012 interprovincial women’s rugby league being played at Woodburn Stadium where the KZN team will be taking on the Golden Lions. Kick-off is at 3 pm.

The KZN team, coached by ex-Natal President XV fullback, Lungi Kama, enjoyed a recent pre-season friendly match win against a Border select team in Umtata, so they will be looking to build on that and start their 2012 campaign off with a win.

In the KZN team line-up will be two players who recently represented the SA Women’s rugby team against a touring international women’s team — Lusanda Mtiya (centre) and Maritzburg-based lock, Dolly Mavumengwana.

Saru introduced an interprovincial women’s rugby league in 2002 and a KZN team has been a regular participant. Last year three of the four provincial league matches were won which resulted in a semi-final play-off where the KZN women were no match for a strong Blue Bulls team.
