Rugby: College will be hard to beat

2011-04-16 00:00

LOOKING ahead to next weekend when the Easter festivals are being held, it will perhaps be a disadvantage for Hilton and Michaelhouse in particular that they will not be playing either today or next week. Kearsney are also still on holiday and are hosting an Easter festival starting next Thursday.

There are three major matches today, with just one in the capital at Maritzburg College. Westville host Northwood and George Campbell will take on Glenwood.

Visitors Pretoria BHS should not be underestimated despite losing two of their matches at the Grey HS Festival against Westville and Queens. They won the match played against Daniel Pienaar by a single point. College won two of their matches and lost by a penalty and conversion against Bishops, where both teams scored three tries, winning against Jeppe and St Andrews.

College have looked impressive with the brand of rugby they are playing, and if their mistakes are cut to a minimum they will be hard to beat.

Westville have the advantage of playing more quality rugby than their visitors this season. Northwood played in the pre-season night series and won all their matches. The one side they have both played is Michaelhouse and it was here that Westville won relatively easily by 20 points. Northwood lost by 17 points. This indicates a fairly big point margin win by Westville.

Glenwood travel across town to play George Campbell. Glenwood, fresh from a trip to the Pukke Festival in Potchefstroom — where they lost two of the three games — will make them determined to start well on the domestic calendar. George Campbell face an uphill battle after already losing against Hilton, Kearsney and Northwood, the latter two by small margins.
