Rugby nuptials

LYNTON Hall in Pennington will host another celebrity wedding today as South Africa’s 2007 World Cup-winning flyhalf Butch James is to tie the knot at the hall.

James (32) will marry 25-year-old Julia Westbrook who is originally from Kloof. The couple have been living together in Bath, where James has been playing rugby since 2007.

While wedding planners and organisers moved in and out of the venue yesterday, James enjoyed a round of golf with a friend, his future father-in-law and his father, Mike.

Jenny James was at Lynton Hall yesterday with family members and Westbrook’s mother. While she couldn’t confirm the exact number of people who would be attending the wedding, she said that an initial estimate has left the family expecting around 240 guests.

Amongst those will be James’s Springbok team-mates Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger, who will both miss the Neo Africa Tri-Series fixture between the Stormers and the Sharks in Cape Town today.

“It’s something that has been planned long ago and the request was made when I was still uncertain about the dates for the Neo Africa Tri-series,” said Stormers coach Alistair Coetzee.

When James next runs onto the rugby field, it will be in the colours of the Lions instead of the more familiar Sharks. But for today, he’ll be forgiven by the thousands of Sharks fans.
