Running is in the genes for this family

DURBAN High School went to College on Saturday for the second Raw Cup soccer match this century and DHS take the cup back to Durban after winning 3-1. Both teams played good soccer, but it was DHS who took their chances and scored two goals after half time to win the game 3-1, after the scores were level at the break.

A unique soccer trophy, the Raw Cup was originally contested between the then Pietermaritzburg High School (now Maritzburg College) and Durban High School in 1888.

After the two schools abandoned soccer in the 1890s in favour of rugby, the Raw Cup literally disappeared.

Early last year, DHS was contacted by someone who had bought the Raw Cup on an auction sale and it was presented to DHS. Thus the game last year was the first match since the 1890s where the two schools again contested for the Raw Cup. This was won 4-1 by College.
