2010-08-20 00:00

THE Ryan Calder Band will be performing three shows next week to promote its new album On The Edge around KwaZulu-Natal.

On August 24, the band will be at the Maritzburg Musicians’ Club at The Red Door in Victoria Road, Pietermaritzburg. Doors open at 8 pm. Tickets are R20. On August 25, the band will be performing at Rockafellas (ex-Boston BBQ) at the Golden Horse Casino from 8 pm. Tickets are R30. The band’s final gig of the week takes place at St Clements, 191 Musgrave Road, Durban on August 26, at 7.30 pm for 8 pm. Tickets are R30.

Albums will be on sale for R100 at all the venues.

The RCB began 2010 with the release of On The Edge, the follow-up to the band’s previous album Better Days. Having toured the Cape in April, they returned to KwaZulu-Natal and performed two shows at the Hexagon Dive at UKZN Pietermaritzburg in May. The band then shared the stage at the Royal Show rock concert with Watershed, Wonderboom and City Bowl Mizers.

Currently on the band’s website, songwriter Calder explains the inspiration behind the new songs in the “Behind the Song” series.

The band has also just launched an interactive online campaign called Life in South Africa, where the aim is to create animated webisodes.
