SA Airlink back in businessat Oribi

2010-01-19 00:00

THE first SA Airlink plane to arrive in Pietermaritzburg since Christmas Eve touched down at Oribi airport slightly behind schedule yesterday, delayed by cloud cover.

The plane took off at 11 am.

The afternoon flight arrived and left without a hitch.

Acting manager for Municipal Enterprises Dr Julie Dyer said there were about 10 people booked on the morning flight.

Indications are that bookings are picking up, as the Pietermaritzburg-Johannesburg early morning and late afternoon return flights are frequently used by the business community.

SA Airlink resumed the limited twice-daily service to Pietermaritzburg yesterday. Flights had been stopped when the airline’s 15 Jetstream aircraft were grounded by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) due to a technical problem with their engines.

Individual aircraft are being re-examined before being re-issued with airworthiness certificates.

There will be flights from Monday to Friday, but none at the weekend. The schedule is as follows: departure from Johannesburg at 6.45 am, arrival in Pietermaritzburg at 8.05 am; departure from Pietermaritzburg at 8.25 am, arrival in Johannesburg at 9.50 am. The afternoon flight will leave Johannesburg at 4.30 pm and arrive in Pietermaritzburg at 5.50 pm; depart from the city at 6.10 pm and arrive in Johannesburg at 7.35 pm.

The airline has undertaken to increase the number of flights between Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg in the coming weeks.
