SA BMX star Nhlapo tops Euro rankings

2008-01-19 00:00

South Africa’s top BMX racing star, Sifiso Nhlapo, came out of a weekend of intense racing still leading the European Championship rankings for 2008, after strong performances at rounds three and four in Zwolle, Holland.

Nhlapo, who won round one and placed second at round two in France in mid-December, showed his late 2007 results were no fluke when he worked his way through to reach the eight-man final last weekend, finishing fifth in a star-studded semi-final.

Although not on the victors’ podium, the points gained from his combined performances keep him at the top of the European Championship rankings and firmly on track for qualification for the BMX racing debut at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Nhlapo will compete in rounds five and six of the European Championships, which take place in Frederica, Denmark, on February 2 and 3.
