SA U18 to face three top sides

2013-08-06 00:00

THE recently announced SA U18 rugby team, following Craven Week, will play three matches against overseas sides like they did in 2012. Unfortunately, all the matches are in the Western Cape.

The squad of 28 players for the games against Wales, France and England include the Du Preez twins, Daniel and Jean-Luc from Kearsney. A surprising omission from the squad was RG Snyman from Affies, a towering 2,05 m lock. He has since been called up to the squad as another tall (2,03 m) lock, JD Schickerling from Paarl Gym, has been injured.

In 2012, the SA schoolboys won all three matches, something they will hope to do again. With eight players in the squad that played last year, the young Boks will again have a good chance of repeating their success.

The players that have a second year in the team are the Du Preez twins, prop Ox Nchwe, lock Abongile Nonkwantano, centres Jurie Linde and Warrick Gelant, wing Duhan van der Merwe and scrumhalf Justin Phillips.
