SA to meet Pakistan in U19 series final

2012-01-20 00:00

WITH just one game remaining in the triangular U19 series between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Pakistan taking place at grounds in the Boland, South Africa and Pakistan will contest the final on Sunday.

South Africa’s last match against Zimbabwe was tough, with the fellow African side showing improvement as the series has progressed.

They have, however, yet to win a match having lost twice against the hosts and twice against Pakistan. Zimbabwe were in a perilous situation at 111 for eight after electing to bat against South Africa. Batsman No 8, Campbell Light, livened up proceedings, making an undefeated 59 in 61 balls to take Zimbabwe to 164.

South Africa started as badly, losing their first five wickets for 87. Chad Bowes and Shaylin Pillay steadied the ship, adding 56 for the 6th wicket.

Kyle Bowie, who has impressed in each game, dismissed Pillay and Prenelan Subrayen in successive overs.

Corné Dry came to the crease with South Africa still requiring 21 runs. They successfully passed the target without further drama for a three-wicket win.

In the second game against Pakistan, the hosts turned the table after losing the first game against them.

Theunis de Bruyn was outstanding as he frustrated the Pakistani bowlers, making 73 in 76 balls after Quinton de Kock had won the toss. He was out to a brilliant catch in the outfield.

De Kock has had a string of low scores after his century in the first match.

Pillay was again involved in a good partnership, this time 90 with de Bruyn.

He ended with 40 off 50 balls as South Africa reached a competitive 240 for seven off the allotted 50 overs.

Pakistan was held in check as each time they appeared to be getting away a wicket would fall.

Dry had done the early damage and he ended with three wickets for 42 off his 10 overs. Pakistan was all out for 198, giving South Africa a 42-run victory.
