SABC1 ‘Reloads’ entertainment slot with eason back with a bang

SABC1 has introduced a refreshed 6.30 pm entertainment timeslot simply titled – SABC1 Mzansi Fo Sho Reloaded.

On Mondays (from September 6) viewers will be able to watch Mzansi Insider, a youthful entertainment show, which highlights events taking place around the country; and on Tuesdays, fans of Rize Mzansi can enjoy a second season of this entrepreneurial reality show, where 14 businesses compete to win R1 million.

Selimathunzi, which moves to Wednesdays, from September 1, reveals what celebs are up to and covers major events around the country; the Ses’khona lifestyle magazine show continues in its Thursday slot; and the lively game show, Jam Alley, can still be seen on Fridays.

Last, but not least, the channel is currently showing the second season of So You Think You Can Dance (on Saturdays). With the top 16 now revealed, it’s up to viewers to vote to keep their favourite dancer on the show.

“The improvement of the schedule is aimed at strengthening our historic bond with our television audiences and ensuring that the brand is taken back to the public in a fresh and more exciting way,” says Ray Nkwe, SABC1’s general manager.

Other highlights this week:


• Big Bang Theory — SABC3, 7.30 pm: In the second season of the comedy series, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) both get girlfriends, Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) drives the Mars Rover into a ditch and Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) woos a terminator.

• Emmy Awards — M-Net, 9.30 pm: The United States Primetime Emmy Awards salute excellence on television.


• Special Assignment — SABC3, 8.31 pm: Cobus van Staden takes a look at government plans to ban Internet porn in South Africa and the effects it could have on Internet access and free speech in South Africa.


• 30 Rock — SABC3, 7.30 pm: In the new season Liz’s (Tina Fey) excitement to be back and see Jack (Alec Baldwin) is quickly squashed when he tells her she is not over Floyd. Meanwhile, Jenna (Jane Krakowski) has gained weight over the summer and Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) becomes Tracy’s (Tracy Morgan) office wife.

• Unplugged Joy of Jazz —, 9.30 pm: Bob Mabena chats to Sangam, who combines regular jazz with an Indian flavour resulting in a rich Afro-Indo fusion sound.


• Top Billing — SABC3, 7.30 pm: Tonight’s guests include Miss South Africa 2005 Thuli Sithole, who recently gave birth to little Chawe Thando­lwethu, and South African goalkeeper Ithumeleng Khune, who reveals it wasn’t football that was his first passion — but cricket.


• Out of Africa — SABC3, 9.30 pm: Meryl Streep and Robert Redford star in this film about a Danish baroness and plantation owner who has a passionate but doomed love affair with a free-spirited big-game hunter in colonial Kenya.
