SACP: Our revolution is not for sale

2012-07-16 00:00

ON the eve of former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday this week, SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande has attacked “liberals” who wanted to claim the struggle stalwart’s legacy.

He said the liberals who were now “pushing the ideas of Madiba” were part of those who incarcerated him during the struggle. “It is a way of trying to discredit our struggle and revolution, the very struggle that Madiba sacrificed his life for,” he said.

He added the alliance should fight against attempts to “steal” the organisation. “Our revolution is not for sale.”

He also attacked NGOs, which he said, were formed every time someone wanted to fight corruption or strengthened the state. “We must be careful not to NGOise this struggle,” he said. “Let’s have NGOs that spring out of our mass activism.”
