SARS: efiling deadline extended to February 5

2009-01-14 00:00

Taxpayers using the Internet to file their tax returns have been granted an extra 15 days’ grace.

This follows the “immense pressure” that last minute filers are putting on over-taxed SARS staff.

In a statement yesterday, SARS said many taxpayers have waited for the last two weeks of the tax season to submit their income tax returns to SARS.

“To date, 850 000 returns have been submitted via eFiling and SARS expects that this number may more than double before the submission deadline.

“However, it seems that many people require assistance from SARS with their eFiling logon and password details.”

SARS appealed to those who have forgotten their password or login details to visit www.sarsefiling. to resolve this online rather than over the telephone.

“The call centre can handle up to 500 calls simultaneously, but is currently receiving many more …”

Taxpayers using eFiling now have until February 5 to submit their income tax returns electronically.
