SASSA: Ignore late letters

2013-04-22 00:00

THE South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has warned grant beneficiaries who have re-registered and obtained their new payment cards to ignore belated letters advising them to register again.

Sassa said in a statement yesterday that it had sent the letters before the post office strike.

Spokesperson Kgomoco Diseko said the strike had delayed postage of the letters, which were now being delivered as the postal backlog was cleared.

Some beneficiaries only received the letters in the past three weeks, instead of about three months back, said Diseko.

“Beneficiaries who have re-registered need not heed the call emanating from such letters, because their grants will not be negatively affected,” he added.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini extended the deadline for registration to the end of April following the delays.

Beneficiaries who encounter problems should call 0800 600 160 for assistance.
