SCC and Hudson Park strongest teams

ONLY three games were played on the last day of the Alex Cricket Week on Friday. The two matches scheduled at Howick, between Weston and St Charles Colts and between Alexandra and Carter were cancelled. Heavy overnight rain resulted in the pitches becoming waterlogged.

Treverton won their second game after losing the first two. Wartburg could only manage 119 in pursuit of 214 scored by Treverton. Matthew Licen with 39 and Don Paterson with 42 not out were the chief contributors. Paterson has been one of the more consistent batsmen at the week. Although Seth Wilson and Ralph Wittig had taken six wickets between them the batsmen did not come to the party. It was Tyron Arnell and Henry Groenewald who captured the majority of the wickets to give their side a win.

Raisethorpe, after starting the week well with a win against Weston, lost their next three matches, including the last one against Howick. They have, however, shown that they could hold their own among other second-tier schools.

The young Howick side lost their first three matches, but with the help of Matthew Webb mainly, bowled Raisethorpe out 43 runs short of the 168 which Howick had scored.

Hudson Park seconds won their fourth match and were, with St Charles Colts, the strongest at the festival. Their last match was a seven-wicket win against Maritzburg Christian School. They made the 87 required for a win in 12 overs with Abongile Ntondini making 58.

Treverton 214-9 (M. Licen 39, D. Paterson 42*, R. Wittig 3/, S. Wilson 3/); Wartburg 119 (T. Arnell 3/, H. Groenewald 4/). Treverton won by 95 runs. Howick 168; Raisethorpe 123 (M. Webb 344). Howick won by 43 runs. MCS 86 (A. Reddy 4/25); Hudson Park II 87-3 (A. Ntondini 58). Hudson Park won by seven wickets.
