SPCA: Daredevils to drop in on Thousand Paws Walk

2012-07-10 00:00

WE have it from a reliable source that there are four brave men who are planning to by-pass the queue at the Hilton College entrance gate and drop in on the Weekend Witness Thousand Paws Walk for SPCA, literally out of the sky.

These daredevils are taking a Cessna 206 from the Eston air strip at

Tala Valley Citrus Estate, and when they get to 1,21 km over Hilton College, they will jump out, free-fall for 10 seconds and then deploy their parachutes to drift down on the top rugby field.

As they float down they will see the field below dotted with lots of little white circles and each skydiver will choose one as his landing target.

The white markers will have names written on them and those landed on by the flying four will win a R250 voucher from Sportsman’s Warehouse.

Markers can be purchased at the 1 000 Paws Walk. Write your name boldly and yours could be chosen as a target and you could win one of four great vouchers.

The flying four, Martin Wergley, Roy Steemson, Nico Voster and Vernan Kloppers, are all display-rated jumpers, used to accurate landings.

This skydiving innovation at the Thousand Paws Walk has been generously sponsored by

Indwe Risk Services from Pietermaritzburg.

The Thousand Paws Walk for SPCA is on Sunday at Hilton College from 9 am to 2 pm.

As well as the two walks, there is a Paws Challenge obstacle course, kids and dogs jumping, an SPCA special class and loads of entertainment, including a lunchtime concert by Undercovers.

With lots of wonderful prizes up for grabs and a really great vibe, you simply must drop in.
