Sadtu, Nehawu to help boost ANC’s election campaign

2014-02-20 00:00

TWO unions affiliated to the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) have stepped in to jack up the ANC’s election campaign in KwaZulu-Natal.

Yesterday, SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) and National Education Health Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) announced their plans to ensure the ruling party won the elections with an overwhelming majority.

“We want the ANC to continue to transform the country and improve people’s lives. The ANC needs an overwhelming mandate from the electorate in order to boldly pursue the radical second phase of transition as mandated by its 53rd national conference and also to keep alive the dream of a better life for all as envisioned by our recently departed icon Madiba,” Nehawu provincial secretary Zola Saphetha said.

Sadtu will launch its campaign in Ulundi today while Nehawu will hold a workers’ meeting in Durban tomorrow.

Both events will be addressed by Cosatu president Sdumo Dlamini.

The union’s planned activities happen as National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa withdrew its member and financial support for the ANC.

Saphetha said their support would be through participating in motorcades, door-to-door campaign, etc.
